DESCRIPTION:

After a two-year detour into filmmaking, bestselling author A. B. Whelan returns with her most haunting and timely novel yet—a razor-sharp psychological thriller inspired by real-life con artists and emotional predators. Easy Prey will leave you breathless and questioning everything.

He stole her sister’s heart, her money, and her future. Now it’s Jules’s turn to rewrite the ending.

When Brooke Taylor—a young, blind woman—dies by apparent suicide, her sister Jules knows something doesn’t add up. Brooke had fallen fast for a charming, mysterious man she met online. Now she’s gone… and so is a small fortune.

Determined to uncover the truth, Jules plunges into her sister’s world—of dating apps, fake identities, and manipulative lies. Her investigation soon spirals into a psychological game of cat and mouse, where nothing is what it seems, and everyone has something to hide. Her only clues are the cassette tapes her sister left behind.

The deeper she digs, the darker the story becomes—and the more dangerous. Because Jules isn’t just chasing a conman. She’s hunting a predator.

Perfect for fans of The Tinder Swindler, Gone Girl, and The Girl on the Train, EASY PREY is a chilling psychological thriller about betrayal, obsession, and how far one woman will go to expose the truth—no matter the cost.

MY THOUGHTS:

A fictional tale, this psychological thriller flags up a warning to those who use digial dating apps.

When Jules discovers a box of cassette tapes her sister Brooke recorded before her death under rather suspicious circumstances, she makes it her mission to uncover the truth behind her death and what lead to it. On the tapes she listens to Brooke regaling falling in love and jetsetting to Europe for romantic adventures with her new love, along with her aspirations and ultimately her fears. What she unravels is a tangled web of secrets, lies and deception under the guise of handsome and charming Alexander Smirnoff.

Jules and her parents struggle to comprehend what they are faced with and thus her discovery sets Jules on the dark path to justice, no matter the cost. But what she discovers is even darker that they could imagine and justice will be even more complicated than they'd first anticipated.

A quick read that can be devoured in a matter of hours.

I would like to thank #ABWhelan, #Netgalley and #BurbankBooks for an ARC of #EasyPrey in exchange for an honest review.
